The choice starts with your roof’s condition, your budget, and which product features matter to you. A higher impact rating or a reflective color can be useful, but neither replaces a sound roof deck, correct installation, and a complete scope of work.

Compare the Shingle Lines

Highlander® is Malarkey’s more economical architectural shingle and has a Class 3 impact rating. Vista® has a Class 4 impact rating, while Legacy® Scotchgard™ adds a thicker architectural profile and algae-resistance coverage. Windsor® Scotchgard™ is the designer option, with a dimensional appearance and Class 4 impact rating. Consider Solar-Reflective Colors

In Phoenix, roof color is worth considering in daylight, on the house, and alongside any published solar-reflectance rating. Malarkey offers solar-reflective Highlander® and Vista® options, including Vista® Cool colors that use reflective granules. Reflectance varies by product and color, so ask for the rating of the exact shingle in your proposal. A reflective shingle can reduce heat absorbed at the roof surface; your home’s cooling costs also depend on insulation, ventilation, ducts, and other conditions.

Plan for Monsoon Wind and Rain

Malarkey’s Vista® shingles have a wider nailing area and two rain seals. Those details are relevant when wind-driven rain reaches a Phoenix-area roof. Vista® carries a 110 mph limited wind warranty; an enhanced 130 mph limited wind warranty is available when its requirements are met. The warranty is not a promise that no shingle can lift in a storm. Ask us to identify the fastening method, starter shingles, ridge shingles, and other components included in your scope.

Understand What an Impact Rating Means

Vista®, Legacy®, and Windsor® have Class 4 impact ratings; Highlander® has a Class 3 rating. These are laboratory test classifications, not guarantees against damage from every hailstorm or falling object. If impact resistance is a priority, compare the specific shingle named in each estimate rather than assuming every Malarkey product has the same rating.

Check Every Roof Area

A Phoenix-area home may have a pitched shingle roof and a lower-slope patio, garage, or casita roof. Vista® shingles must not be installed on slopes below 2:12, and Malarkey specifies additional underlayment requirements for slopes from 2:12 to under 4:12. Malarkey also makes the OmniSeal® system for low-slope roof areas. We’ll identify each roof area in the estimate so you can see which material is proposed for it.

Know Which Warranty You Are Getting

Malarkey offers shingle warranties and enhanced roofing-system warranties with different requirements. Its Certified Pro warranty, for example, requires installation by an eligible certified contractor and at least three qualifying Malarkey accessory products; the contractor must purchase and register it within 45 days of installation.
